Asket Relaunches the ‘Impact Receipt’ to Highlight Environmental Cost of Consumption
Swedish clothing brand ASKET has taken a significant step towards environmental transparency with the launch of ‘The Impact Receipt’ on Sunday.
Building upon the concept it first introduced in 2020, this innovative receipt provides a detailed statement of the environmental impact of every item sold. Initially, the impact assessment was limited to a few garments, but with the partnership with Vaayu Tech, ASKET now offers comprehensive lifecycle impact assessments for all its products. This includes data from every stage of production, such as farming, yarn spinning, weaving, dyeing, and construction, along with the impact of associated transportation.
The goal of ‘The Impact Receipt’ is to revolutionize consumer perception of clothing value. It aims to highlight not just the monetary cost but also the environmental footprint of each purchase. This detailed information is also available on ASKET's website, where each product page within its transparency module offers complete supply chain traceability and a cost breakdown.
ASKET’s initiative aims to provide consumers with a complete understanding of an item's price, origin, and environmental impact. The company hopes that this level of insight will encourage consumers to make more sustainable choices, buy less, and extend the lifespan of their garments, contributing to a larger strategy of reducing overall consumption. “It's the start of a new era,” wrote August Bard Bringéus, co-founder at ASKET, in a LinkedIn post. “One where we're no longer left in the dark - overwhelmed by choices and their consequences - but instead empowered to understand and keep track of our footprint. Unless we put a price on our planet's resources, we'll never make concessions to the consumption we've been taught we're entitled to.”
